Review period - April, 2019.
Background
Over the last one year, we have been publishing reviews of nudist destinations around the world, in our signature style, with visitor information in template format. Although we are based out of India, still we have never reviewed any nudist destination in India, which is not surprising, because legally there are none here. In such cultures, where this topic is a taboo, virtual interactions and presence of people in online groups of complete strangers is very high as real social gatherings are very very rare and secret. So, for a change, we thought of publishing the results of a survey we conducted sometime back, on the members of a random WhatsApp group of nudists, of which our reporter was a part of.
While the main purpose is to post the results of that survey, but we thought, why not make it like a nudist destination review we normally do. After all, all work and no play makes jack a dull boy!

Conclusions
The Gender Ratio Project is the parent project of The Nudist Calendar Project, which covers beyond nudist destinations (events/platforms/apps etc.) and provides primarily gender ratio information.

Detailed review
- Total members - Approximately 60 to 70.
- Entry - Mostly via online connection and few via personal acquaintance.
- Most members in India seem to be added without personal acquaintance, as there are rarely occasions where people meet in a nudist setup.
- Many people mention these WhatsApp groups in online meetup groups like meetup.com, etc.
- Posting rules - Sexual content was discouraged.
- only self pics were encouraged.
- Gender ratio - Women : men was roughly 1 : 60.
- Age bracket ratio - (18 - 40) : 40+ was approximately 3:1. This was based on a survey filled up the members of the group -
Note that only one third of the members responded to the survey. Click here for the complete survey results.
- Married/unmarried members? Both in case of men. Women only married.
- Nude content posting? Men only. Many had posted even with face as well as genitals exposed.
- The female member of the group never posted any of her nude pics.
- Body sizes ratio - Plus sizes to others as per pics posted was roughly 1:2.
- Sexual activities observed? Yes, many sexually suggestive pics by many men, which were encouraged by many members and discouraged by many.
- Difficulty level - Easy for men to be part of, however, sharing nude pics with face may be moderately risky. May be moderate to difficult for women to be even part of, if not for sexual harassment but for complaints by other members for not participating in the way they would expect to.
- A lot of men were quite bothered about the authenticity of the female member, since she had a business profile, and would sometimes endorse her products. Also, she never posted any of her nude pics.
- Physical meetups - Very few meetups were initiated.
- Most meetups planned would be unorganised in terms of venue, have unreliable planning and attended by scattered groups, if at all they happened.
- Meetups happened only in homes of members.
Data sample
- This was just of one out of almost 5 WhatsApp groups of nudists the admin was a part of.
- Although the group dynamics were not same across all of them, but this was the only one in which he could do a survey.
Conclusions
- Most of the people are home/closet nudists, who have not participated in social nudity actually.
- A significant percentage of them expect nudism to be about people sharing their nude pics.
- A lot of debate used to go on around the definition of true nudist. If you are not one posting your nude pics, your authenticity behind being a nudist will be questioned. Also, similar accusations if you are posting nudes but only without face.
- Apart from this, what people should post and what not used to be a common debate.
- Random forwards and lots of good morning/good evening posts used to be common. A related point from the survey -
- There had been several reports of some unsolicited private messages by some people, mostly complained by the men though. Don't remember the female member complaining about such messages but there was a different issue involving her.
- A lot of men were quite bothered about the authenticity of the female member, since she had a business profile, and would sometimes endorse her products. Also, she never posted any content like pics. They even got her removed from the group once, but later added again.
- A few members used to meet and sometimes used to share pics. Not sure if they met someone via the group or knew them already or posted about meeting someone outside the group.
- The female member was clear about her stance of not being open to meeting.
Other WhatsApp groups of nudists in India/with Indians.
- The other whatsapp groups we have been part of were somewhat different.
- There were no women in any of them.
- A lot of discussions would be on planning the next meetup, but always there would be respondents or the hosts not replying on the decided day. Any meetups, if at all happened, seemed to be very unorganised and a private affair, and in private homes.
Nudist whatsapp groups in India/with Indians in general
- To summarize, unless there were a lot of NRIs, or foreign returns, most of the nudism related discussion/content sharing would be on
- sharing nude pics.
- planning/cancelling meetups.
- sharing nudist adventures in India, sometimes often in risky situations and rarely even extreme ones like going for a nude run before sunrise and returning before someone saw, stripping inside a public transport, etc.
- In case of a lot of NRIs or foreign returns, there is quite a lot of informative discussion.
- It would be difficult to estimate how many people in India, right now, would be part of such WhatsApp groups that they joined from some other groups like on meetup.com or truenudists.com or some random places. If you would like to provide some insights, let us know, or answer these questions on Quora -
If you were to estimate the total number of people in nudist WhatsApp groups and living in Bangalore, how would your approach be?
What would be a good comparative estimate of the number of Indians in public WhatsApp groups for nudists? Would it be more or less than the number in online sites like Truenudists.com?
What is The Gender Ratio Project?
The Gender Ratio Project is the parent project of The Nudist Calendar Project, which covers beyond nudist destinations (events/platforms/apps etc.) and provides primarily gender ratio information.
